My uncle Willie passed away this morning from a sudden massive heart attack. The whole family is still in shock and the news hasn’t really sunk in yet. This Sunday would have been his 51st birthday. My mom called me this morning as soon as they heard the news from my aunt in the Philippines.
“Tito Leh” went into a coma December 1st, shortly after he lost consciousness at his home. From what my aunt told my mom, she said his head was hurting, then he yawned, and then suddenly passed out. They rushed him to the hospital, doctors tried to revive him, but he was already “brain dead” by then. Based on their diagnosis, the doctors said that from the time he lost consciousness, to the mad rush to the hospital, and to the moment they tried to revive him, uncle Willie had already suffered two heart attacks.
This morning, while in already comatosed state, uncle Willie went into cardiac arrest and died.

I can’t even begin to describe what I’m feeling right now. I’m both in mourning and in still in a state of shock. Uncle Willie and our family were close. He and my aunt visited us here in Canada about 3 years ago and stayed at our place for a week. Uncle Willie and my dad were really close as brothers so it really is tough for everyone.
On a personal note: Tito Leh took care of me during my month-long vacation to the Philippines 4 years ago. He picked me up from the airport, took care of almost all my expenses during my stay (He didn’t even let me spend a single dollar of my pocket money), and took care me and my then-girlfriend. He showed me a great time and I will never forget all the things he did for me.
I remember just after he picked me up at the airport, he called my dad and said “Ed, nandito na si John. Wag kayo mag-alala, ako na bahala sa kanya (Ed, John’s already here. You don’t have to worry about anything. I’ll take good care of him.”).

He was a great husband to my aunt. A wonderful father to my cousins. A loving son to my grandparents.
He was a good man and he will be missed. Goodbye Tito Leh.
